Most of the times I get bored with the usual tomato chutney, coconut chutney or sambar for idli dosa and I keep searching for new ones. And this is one chutney which is different from the routine and has a very unique taste. Garlic lovers will certainly love this chutney. It is amazing with dosa or idli and I love it.
Ingredients
1 ts chana dal
¼ ts hing
3 red chilli
1 inch tamarind piece
15-20 garlic pods
Sesame oil as per need
To temper
½ ts mustard seed
½ ts urad dal
Few curry leaves
Preparation
- In a kadai add a teaspoon of sesame oil. Once hot add chana dal and fry it until its slightly brownish on the outside. Switch off the flame. Add red chilli and hing. Give a good toss along with the chana dal. Keep aside.
- In the same kadai fry the garlic until they turn light brownish and gives a shrunk look on the outside. Keep them aside.
To grind
- Grind the chana dal, hing and red chilli mix without water.
- Then add the tamarind piece and grind with very little water.
- Add the fried garlic and grind everything along. Now add sufficient water and salt.
In the kadai add oil. Once hot temper it with mustard seed, urad dal and curry leaves. Add the ground mix and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes. It is usually had in a thicker consistency.
