Vazhakkai podimas is a very healthy and simple preparation. Raw banana is a very good source of fibre, carbohydrates, potassium, vitamin A and C. This podiums tastes great with steamed rice and any spicy curry.

Ingredients
2 medium sized Vazhakkai/ Raw banana/ Plantain
1 medium sized onion
1 inch ginger (grated)
5 small green chillies (finely chopped)
1/4 ts pongal perungayam/ hing
3 ts grated coconut
1 ts mustard seed
Oil as per need

Preparation

Pressure cook raw banana with very little water and salt just for a whistle. Overcooking may turn them mushy. After it is cooled peel the skin and grate the plantain with a thick grater. Discard the boiled water.

Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seed. After they crackle add hing. Immediately afterwards add the finely chopped onion, green chillies and ginger together. Fry them for a while until onion turns slight golden. Add a little salt at this stage. (Raw banana does not require the addition of too much salt. So be careful in the addition of salt.) Now add the cooked and grated plantain. Combine everything and cook for 2 minutes. Finally add the grated coconut, combine everything and cook for an extra minute.
