Fish puttu/ Scrambled fish

Fish puttu is a sure delight and its taste is out of the world.

Fish puttu (Sura puttu) is usually done with the shark (sura) fish. I tried with salmon fish and its taste was also amazing. Any fish may go well with this recipe.

This dish almost resembles and tastes like scrambled eggs. In childhood days, we have had funny memories on preparing and giving it to non-fish eaters. Thinking it to be an egg preparation they had it gleefully only later knowing that it was fish J So are you ready to play pranks to your non-fish eating mates. Then this is the dish to do. Let them know how a fish tastes delicious. And they are converted.

This is also a dish to do when you are bored of making fish curries and fish fries. They can also be tried with leftover fish from curries and fries.

Ingredients
1 salmon fish fillet
1 ts mustard seed
½ ts turmeric powder
½ ts cumin powder
1 ts pepper powder
Few curry leaves

To grind
3ts grated coconut
3 red chillies
1 ts jeera
1 medium sized onion chopped

Preparation

Add half cup water in a small pan with salt and turmeric powder. After the water is boiled put the fish pieces into it and let it boil for 2-3 minutes. After its cooled down, take the fish out and scramble them.

In a wide pan add enough oil. Once hot add mustard seed. After they crackle add turmeric powder, curry leaves and quickly add the grounded paste. Keep mixing and stiring until the raw smell of onion from the paste has gone. Now add the scrambled fish. Give a good toss. Keep tossing every few seconds for 3 minutes until the fish has completely cooked. If they tend to stick to the pan sprinkle little water as and when needed. Add roasted cumin powder and pepper powder. Mix and let it simmer for a minute.

Add a little lemon squeeze at the end.

@ Shalini Thanks Shalini for trying it out...and nice to know it came out well...the dish gets a gud color when turmeric powder is added directly to the oil...and also bcos of chilli powder..try using more chilli...or u can even try kashmiri red chilli powder...it is milder than the usual red chilli powders but gives a nice color to the dish...
